A process in organisms where the gametes of two parents (male and female) are combined to produce offspring. Sperm of the male animal or pollen from the male plant is fused with the egg of the female to produce a new cell which forms into an embryo. In plants, the embryo becomes a seed which if germinated, will produce a new plant. In animals, the embryo develops either inside an egg or in the body of the female, and a new offspring is produced into the world. The offspring carries the inherited genetic information of its two parents, but is different from the parents with its own individual mauri and uniqueness.
