He momo āhua e kaha kitea ana i te mahi whakairo, i ngā momo whakapīwari hoki. E ai ki ētahi, he tinana tangata tō te manaia, he upoko manu. Ki ētahi, he rite te āhua ki te manaia o te moana.

A type of figure commonly seen in carving and in jewellery. It is said that the manaia has a human body and a bird-like head. It is also said to resemble a seahorse.
