Ko te whakamahi i ētahi kupu e rua, nui ake rānei, he ōrite te tikanga. Hei tauira, i te rerenga kōrero 'Ka piri rāua kia tata', he kupu tāwere te 'kia tata' nā te mea he tāruatanga o te tikanga o te kupu 'piri'.

The use of two or more words which mean the same thing. For example, in the sentence 'Ka piri rāua kia tata', the words 'kia tata' are redundant becuse they reiterate the meaning of 'piri'.
