A region completely empty of matter. If an object is moving in a vacuum, there is no force of friction to oppose the motion, therefore the object will keep moving forever. Space (beyond the Earth’s atmosphere) is a vacuum, there is no force opposing the orbit and rotation of the planets, therefore they keep moving forever.
